Perry is born July 25, 1968 in Chicago, Illinois to Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. One of her first TV appearances were Jackie Harris on ABC's sitcom Roseanne. Her mother played the character. Fearing stress, her parents were not keen to let the actress pursue acting until she turned 18. Perry, who was too timid to perform in the school, began to perform at Northwestern University because she wanted to make new friends. Perry had the opportunity to secure minor TV roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent after she graduated. Homesickness, however, led her back to California and she returned working in the stage. The Other Place was performed by her mother and her on Broadway in 2013. Perry was in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie, along with Kevin McKidd. This was staged in the West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry appeared in 9 episodes of ABC's thriller The Family during 2016. In 2017, Perry had the role of a political thriller Scandal with her father. She played the younger Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon. This spin-off episode of CBS's The Big Bang Theory was another younger portrayal of her mother. The character was picked by auditions, even though she had a close connection with it.
